Individual Programmes for Adults

Te Manawa Family Services is approved with Ministry of Justice to provide the following programmes:

Women’s Individual Applicant programme:

This is a 12 week programme for women who have taken out a protection order against someone else. If you want to attend this programme you are able to contact the Family Court and ask for a referral. The Family Court will pay the programme fee.

The programme involves:

An initial intake assessment session where we set goals with you and assess the current situation with regard to your safety (and the safety of any children). Throughout the following eleven individual sessions we will work together on safety plans, conflict resolution, communication skills, understanding cycles of violence and how to break them, self-esteem, self-confidence, holding personal boundaries, healthy relationships, rights to equality and respect and other topics that will support you to keep violence and abuse out of your life.

Women’s Individual Respondent programme:

This is a 12 week programme for women who have had a protection order taken out against them. Referrals come from the Family Court or the Family Violence Court.

The programme involves:

An initial intake assessment session where we set goals with you, explain how a protection order works and assess the current situation with regard to safety. Throughout the following eleven individual sessions we will work together on topics such as identifying triggers for anger, stress management, conflict resolution, respectful communication, understanding the cycles of violence, looking at the context of women’s violence, the impact of violence on everyone, including children, self-care and respect. and other topics that will support you to maintain a life free from violence and abuse.

Men’s Individual Respondent programme:

This is a 12 week individual programme for men who have had a protection order taken out against them. Referrals come from the Family Court or the Family Violence Court. Referrals onto this programme are accepted when it is assessed at the initial intake assessment session that the men’s group programme is not suitable.

The programme involves:

An initial intake assessment session where we set goals with you, explain how a protection order works and assess the current situation with regard to safety. Throughout the following eleven individual sessions we will work together on topics such as identifying your triggers for anger, stress management skills, conflict resolution, respectful communication, understanding the cycles of violence and how to take off-ramps, the impact of violence on everyone, including children, power and control versus equality and respect, self-care, self-respect, self-responsibility and other topics that will support you to live and advocate for a life free from violence and abuse.

Self-referrals to Individual programmes:

In some cases where self-referred men or women are unable to attend the group programme, Te Manawa Services will accept self-referrals to the 12 week individual Living Free from Violence men or women’s programme. However as we are not funded for self-referrals for the individual programmes, there is a charge to cover the cost. This is $100 per session, payable at the time of attending the weekly sessions.
